Gina Grant from Down Syndrome Ireland has kindly offered to host a “Next Steps” workshop for members of Down Syndrome Limerick. The workshop will be free of charge to attend, held in-person, and will last approximately 2 hours.

As children with Down Syndrome approach adulthood, families face new challenges, important decisions, and exciting possibilities. This interactive workshop is designed for parents and caregivers to explore what independence and independent living truly mean after the age of 18 and how best to support these goals while respecting each individual’s needs and choices.

Together, we will

• Discuss practical and emotional aspects of transitioning into adulthood

• Explore options after 18, including education, work, supported living, and community involvement

• Understand the impact of 2023 legislation around decision-making support and rights

• Learn about entitlements for long-term carers and how to access them

• Raise awareness about online scamming and how to protect vulnerable individuals.

This session will also help shape future workshops by gathering input on what families and caregivers most need moving forward. Let’s question the next steps together, plan intentionally, and ensure every young adult is given the chance to thrive with dignity and autonomy.
