We know that when a new parent or expectant parent receives a diagnosis of Down syndrome it can be difficult to take in such unexpected news and if you are like most parents you will have little idea of what Down syndrome will mean to your child and family. We also understand that the feelings of joy at having your new baby may be mixed with a wide range of emotions such as shock and anxiety. These emotions are normal in the circumstances. You will also have questions that you need answers to. We are here to help.
Parent Link is a support and information service for parents of kids with Down syndrome. It is a service run entirely on a voluntary basis by a Parent who is familiar with the feelings and reactions associated with having a child with Down syndrome in the family. Our Parent Link person can also meet with you to offer support and will try to answer questions you may find difficult to ask of others. This service is confidential and aims to provide a listening ear for new parents.
Introducing Louise Daly
Hi my name is Louise Daly and I am married to Shane. We have 3 children Chloe, Tadhg and Ameliya. Ameliya has Down syndrome.
My role as the DSL Parent Link person is to firstly congratulate you on the birth of your baby. I hope to be able to support and guide you in the early days of your journey. I am happy to help you find any support networks you may need or to answer any questions you may have e.g. about baby massage, breastfeeding, hospital visits etc. Parent Link is here for you, whether it’s just a friendly smile, a listening ear or a cup of tea and a chat that you need.
Welcome Baby Boxes
Down syndrome Limerick is delighted to be able to bestow not just one but two welcome boxes to new parents in Limerick. Both “The Perfect Gift” and Johnson and Johnson Vision-care Limerick kindly donate welcome boxes for new arrivals! The Perfect Gift is a charity that was set up by two mums who have children with Down syndrome. They set up this charity to ensure that new parents are met with positivity and support when their baby is born. In giving a welcome box The Perfect Gift, DSL and all those that support both charities are saying “Welcome, Congratulations, you are all Perfect and we are here for you”.
